SD BMW Racing off to a stellar start!!!
The first round of the California State Championship Series took place at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in Southern California on May 8-9th 2010 in conjunction with round 4 of the WERA West Sportsman series. The rider stirring up the most attention at the event was undoubtedly Jeremy Toye of San Diego. Jeremy’s new ride was announced just two weeks before the Series started when a new partnership was formed between San Diego BMW Motorcycles and Lee’s Cycles Service with special sponsorship provided by Locust data storage. The new team was formed with the intention of competing in, and winning, the California State Championship and showing the capabilities of the new production Superbike king, the 2010 BMW S1000RR.
The team managed to do this in Spectacular fashion. With limited time on the track, Jeremy was entered in the morning’s A Superstock race as a warm-up for the premier race in the afternoon, Formula 1. On the first complete lap of the race Jeremy set the new lap record of 1:46.06, besting the previous lap record by more than two tenths of a second. Needless to say the S1000RR is good, but in the F1 we proved it was the best bike on track.
Starting from the front row Jeremy was second going into turn one behind the KTM RC8 of James Randolf with Tigert in 3rd, Brant Wiwi in 4th, and Corey Sarros (the former lap record holder) rounding out the top 5. It was a well fought battle, but on the penultimate lap Jeremy made his move to the front of the field and opened a small gap to start the final lap. With the KTM running off track at the infamous Bus Stop corner it left Sarros and Toye to fight for the win. In the last half of the lap Sarros made a strong push to close the gap to the BMW, but in the end it was simply too much and Jeremy took victory number one in the CA State Championship.
Jeremy Toye (1st Place): “Yeah, we had a really good battle there, and for sure had a good time. This was a really good weekend to kick this bike off. We still have a lot of stuff in the works. We saw a lot of things this weekend and we learned of things on the bike this weekend and there is a lot more potential for sure! I couldn’t be happier! Just to put things into perspective I sat down and went wow! This things first race lap ever on a track we set a new lap record, second race lap ever actually sampled some soil, but then we came back to win the premier event. So everything went pretty close to plan. I can’t wait to do the other two rounds in the championship. Infineon is one of my favourite tracks of all to ride, and Willow I kind of know that place.
Additionally the team plans to compete in the Lucas Oil Superbike Challenge at Miller Motorsports Park during the World Superbike Weekend on May 31st, and the Laguna Seca Round of AMA Nationals supporting the Moto GP.
That's my boy.................what a great combo this is gonna be!! It kinda looks like the two top underdogs are gonna take a bite out of the "normal" racing world!! And stand them on their ears ------
ReplyDeleteGO JEREMY!!! GO SD BMW!! Yer #1 fan is rootin for you all the way!!
